Article summary

As the IMO you will participate in and attend the FSC Cluster meeting and the Information Management Working Group (IMWG) meeting, in addition, there are likely to be ad hoc and context specific meetings that will require your attendance (see CC Handbook chapter 5.14.1).

The cluster meeting is the opportunity to provide a general overview to the partners, identify the trends and patterns, flag important updates, describe the gaps, and outline any projections/ expected scenarios. The meeting is generally operational with inputs expected for both national and sub national coordination. It is an opportunity also for partners to input and update the cluster.

Discuss with the cluster coordinator what information is required, however, some general inputs from the IMO to the cluster meeting are:

  1. National level snapshot (a general overview of the response). This should be provided by domain of assistance (Food Assistance and Livelihoods) and/or by HRP objective à who has been assisted, where has this taken place, what has been provided, by whom and how much (the 5Ws) + the gaps in assistance.
  2. Context (stresses: lean season, floods, conflict)
    1. Draw upon any updates from relevant bodies (for example latest updates on flooding, drought etc) and share data, maps etc if they exist.
    2. Provide updates on upcoming initiatives from IM perspective – e.g., planting season data collection exercise (stockpiles to be released in xy locations etc)
  3. Share the mandatory products (static and/ or interactive)
    1. Partner presence
    2. Gap analysis
    3. Response

Frequency and timing: the cluster meeting will be held regularly (bi-monthly, monthly, quarterly etc) and should be timed to coincide with IM updates. To elaborate, it is important to provide relevant and contemporary information and therefore to ensure IM updates (5Ws cycle etc) are aligned to the cluster meeting. For example, as the time lag for producing and disseminating 5Ws products is already 1 month post implementation + the time required for compiling, cleaning and clearing 5Ws data/ products, it is important to avoid further delays by ensuring that cluster meetings are planned in cohesion with the aforementioned IM 5Ws cycle.
