1.4. The Global Food Security Cluster

Prev Next

While present on the ground since the beginning of the cluster approach (2005), at the global level the Food Security Cluster was formally endorsed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) on the 15 December 2010 and subsequently established in 2011 to coordinate food assistance and livelihoods actors together during a humanitarian crisis.

The gFSC’s objective is to ensure a more predictable and comprehensive response to food insecurity during humanitarian crises. Please read more about the development and goals of the Global Food Security Cluster here (CC Handbook 2.4 and 2.5).

If you are unfamiliar with the concept of food security and its four pillars (availability, access, utilization and stability), please read more here (CC Handbook 2.3).

The gFSC is tasked with providing support to both coordination and IM functions (meet the team here). Based on your geographical region you will be assigned a coordination (CC) and information management focal point from the gFSC. Regular calls will be arranged between gFSC and FSC country teams, to ensure support during the HPC cycle, maintain updates and address specific topics or challenges. It is important that effective collaboration and communication is upheld between gFSC and FSC country teams.

We have developed a ‘Who to Contact’ to help you reach out to the right focal point at gFSC. Please check here.
