This chapter looks at the importance of coordinated (joint or harmonised) assessments and analysis for the FSC’s work, the role of the Coordinator and the FSC team and the key resources a Coordinator can lean on. It provides an overview of the different assessment phases in an emergency (including assessment preparedness), the types of assessments (with specific focus on assessing food security needs) as well as the role of IPC/CH. It also flags the importance of FSC Coordinators being able to translate assessments data into a coherent representation and analysis of the FSC situation and needs (including in the Humanitarian Needs Overview).
